Full Mouth Rehabilitation

Full Mouth Rehabilitation

If you have short, worn, missing, or broken teeth, and suffer pain, sensitivity or displeasure with the appearance of your smile, you may be a candidate for full mouth restoration.

Full-mouth rehabilitation is the restoration of the mouth involving every tooth in the upper and/or lower arch. Full mouth rehabilitation/restoration is a good option for people whose teeth are excessively worn down, damaged, missing, or for people who have problems with their temporomandibular joint (TMJ) (The Joint that moves the lower jaw). Full mouth restoration, which can include a variety of crowns, veneers, onlays, bridges, or implants, is usually accomplished in two to four visits to the doctor.

We perform such cases with Pre-Treatment Consultations to identify each Jaw’s individual requirements for deigning a smile that is aesthetically pleasant and functionally comfortable for the Patients.

The following information is collected before initiating the treatment

  • Full mouth x-rays
  • History
  • Study models of both arches
  • Facial analysis
  • Photos
  • Patient intent

The second consultation Involves performing ‘Face Bow Transfer’ and making the ‘Bite Registration Records’. Every patient has a different anatomy and relation between Upper and Lower Jaw and Upper Jaw and TM Joint. As a result every patient’s lower jaw moves differently in particular fashion permitted by the presence and absence of teeth.

Face Bow is a caliper like device used to record the relationship of upper jaw to the opening axis of the jaws and transfer this information to Equipment called the ‘Articulator’, with the help of some bite records. With such a procedure an individual patient’s jaw movement can be simulated on the Articulator. Now a platform is set for designing a new beautiful smile keeping in mind that this smile can be comfortably used by the patient for function such as chewing, swallowing, speaking etc.

The third consultation addresses the smile design and goals of the treatment. A hand crafted wax-up of the proposed design is presented on the study models. The patient is explained the entire treatment procedure involved and once the Design of Smile is approved by the patient next phase that is the Treatment Phase is initiated.

Full mouth rehabilitation sometimes requires consultations with a periodontist, oral surgeon, and/or orthodontist to provide you the optimal dental health you deserve.

There may be some teeth present that require Root Canal Therapy. All decay is removed the existing teeth and teeth are first restored to a healthy level. Then teeth are carefully prepared with the use of some diagnostic aids made at the beginning of the treatment.

Temporary teeth are then sculpted by the doctor from the proposed design and are placed in your mouth to allow a preview of the design. The impressions are sent to the laboratory and the master ceramist meticulously builds the design in about three to four weeks. This time allows for acclimation and modification if necessary. Once the restorations are shaped and polished, an appointment is set to bond the natural-looking restorations to your teeth.

All full mouth cases take hours of planning and development so that a long lasting smile and bite can be developed for the patient. That is satisfying once the prime goal of our treatment philosophy is achieved ,and that is to give to our patient a stable, comfortable solution which can stand the test of time.
